Home Project: Necklace Holder

I know, I know...I am a mechanical designer and sometimes the posts get boring! One tech article after the other. Tonight, I mix it up just a little bit with a little home project I wanted to share.

Being a mechanical designer with a pretty powerful tool at my fingertips, its not hard to draw anything my mind desires, especially if the wife needs something for her business. She came to me and asked for a display stand for her jewelry business. I quickly jumped on my laptop and within the hour had a full set of plans, a rendering approved by her and an estimate from my local Lowes Hardware on the parts from my BOM!

Thanks to Solid Edge and my experience with creating pipe furniture for a client, it was a breeze to download the files I needed from Mcmaster-Carr and put together the stand that I had in mind.

With BOM in hand, I went to my local Lowes and picked out all of the parts within 10 minutes and was out the door.

I then got to work cutting all of the material first. Then I got the PVC primer and cement out and went to town. The purple primer makes a MESS! Looks like my two year-old got a hold of it in a craft day!

Once I was happy with it, I started laying the paint to the frame and am currently awaiting it dry.

I love projects like these, because they are inexpensive, yet I got to utilize all of my design skills to make something that my wife would enjoy! Thanks for following #lifeofadrafter!
